Dr Gbessay Ehlogima Sam Momoh is the Founder, the Financier and the Technical Adviser of SHADE. He holds Ph.D. in forestry, MSc in forest management and economics and Bachelor degree in geography alongside series of specialized forestry, environment and climate change courses. He has deep knowledge and technical skills in sustainable forest management, environmental governance, climate justice, carbon financing, Responsible Agricultural investment, Voluntary Guidelines on the Tenure of Governance of Land, Fisheries and Forest, Land based investment, Contract Farming, Agro-ecological Practices, Climate Resilience Initiatives, etc. He has served as a teacher, lecturer at the Eastern Technical University and the Njala University. He worked with Statistics, Sierra Leone, Gola Rainforest National Park, Conservation Society of Sierra Leone, USAID/STEWARD, Bioclimate/UK, FAO/UN etc. Dr Momoh has led pivotal projects in Sierra Leone and other countries including the REDD+ technical and capacity building for Readiness process for West Africa, Global Transformation of Forest for People and Climate: a focus on West Africa, Sustainable Management of the Fouta Djallon Highland, National Adaptation Plan, Pilot Community Based Forestry and Co-Forest Management to name but a few.
He has conducted series of research and assessment on environmental and social impact assessment, social and livelihood assessment, baseline assessment, feasibility studies, forest carbon inventory etc. and has made series of publications.
Dr Momoh is a forester, an environmentalist, human rights defender/campaigner and philanthropist who has helped over 100 women to advance their farming and businesses through his Loan Scheme for Women in Agriculture and Business he introduced in 2020. His desire and compassion to support humanity was manifested in 2019 when he constructed a bridge in his village – Kavuyama, Yawei Chiefdom, Kailahun district and also constructed another on Ehlogima Sam Street, Kenema in 2021.
