One-Village-One-Forest Initiative

Empowering communities to protect forests and promote sustainable agroforestry in Sierra Leone.

About the Program

Learn how we engage communities to conserve biodiversity and support sustainable land use.

Community-Led Conservation

The One-Village-One-Forest initiative encourages communities in Sierra Leone to take ownership of local forests, protecting biodiversity and promoting agroforestry. By integrating tree crop rehabilitation (e.g., cacao and coffee) with shade crop cultivation, we ensure environmental sustainability and economic benefits for rural households.

Since 2012, SHADE has worked with villages to establish protected forest areas, train farmers in sustainable practices, and monitor biodiversity outcomes. This program aligns with our mission to balance human development with environmental stewardship.
